We are in need of volunteers!
The Vocation Seekers pray for and promote vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life. Membership is not limited to Blessed Sacrament Parish but is open to all Catholics from Somerset County. Men and women who are interested in actively encouraging and supporting vocations are welcome to join. The Pray-A-Day Club is sponsored by the Vocation Seekers. Volunteers pledge to pray one day a month for the intention of increasing vocations to the priesthood and religious life.
PRAY-A-DAY FOR VOCATIONS
Pledging to pray one day a month for religious vocations is a simple, but powerful, first step toward encouraging vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Volunteers are needed to pledge to pray one day a month for the intention of increasing vocations to the priesthood and religious life. The volunteers will select one calendar day. (e.g. the 15th of every month) You may also consider attending mass or praying the rosary.
If you are interested please email Kathi Slattery at [email protected] or call 732-356-4405 with your name and the date you selected.
The Vocations Traveling Chalice Program is also sponsored by the Vocation Seekers. Each week a family or individual takes home the chalice to pray for religious vocations, and in particular for a seminarian in our diocese.
The Vocation Seekers give special thanks to those who take the vocations traveling chalice home and pray for Vocations, particularly for seminarians in the Diocese of Metuchen. Please consider taking the chalice home to pray for vocations. Your prayers are truly being answered! We especially need volunteers for March. Please sign up in the foyer and pick up and return the Vocation Traveling Chalice to the foyer by noon on Saturday. Thanks!
Please continue to pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life. If you would like to learn more about how our parish dedicates a “day of prayer” for this ministry, please contact Ginny or Jim Brogan at 732-356-6466 or via email at [email protected]
HOW DOES THE VOCATIONS TRAVELING CHALICE PROGRAM WORK?
There will be a sign-up binder in the narthex of the church. Hosting the chalice is very simple. Each weekend, a different family or person who has signed up will take the Vocations Traveling Chalice into their home and commit to pray that week for vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Praying can be done at any time, though many families find it especially meaningful to pray together as a family before or after the evening meal. It is important that the chalice be treated with reverence and respect. Please place the chalice in a prominent place in your home as a reminder of this special time of prayer. When the week is over, the host family will return the chalice to the narthex by Saturday morning so that the next family can take the chalice home. It is our hope that this experience will encourage each of us to take seriously our vocation as a member of the Body of Christ and encourage ALL of us to pray for the gift of vocations to the priesthood and religious life.
We believe the Spirit is calling men and women from our faith community to these roles of service. May our prayers help inspire young men and women to be attentive to the movement of the Spirit within them and to step forward in faith with generous hearts to wherever the Spirit leads them.
