Liturgy of the Word
The purpose of the Liturgy of the Word is for the congregation to hear God's consoling words from our inspired Sacred Scripture. Family or Firends of the departed may proclaim readings. They should be chosen for their maturity and keeping in mind that they will be speaking front of others in these trying circumstances.
One or two readings may be selected; if two readings are chosen, the first must come from the Old Testament
options here
and the second from the New Testament

.
The preist celebrant will choose the Gospel reading unless the family has a special request.
