Welcome to Mary Foy- our new Director of Children's Faith Formation
July2,2020
One of our greatest works as Catholic Christians is to pass along our wonderful faith to others, particularly to the children in our parish community. I am indeed honored to have been led here to Blessed Sacrament to minister as Director of Children’s Faith Formation. While my own children were growing up in South Plainfield, I was a volunteer catechist in our parish, and later director of children’s music and liturgy there. Later, I moved on to serving as a pastoral associate and parish catechetical leader. During that time, I received my Level I and II certificates in Catechetical Leadership from the Diocese of Metuchen, and then my Masters of Pastoral Studies degree from Loyola University in New Orleans, focusing on spirituality.
I am anxious to meet the families of Blessed Sacrament, and all the wonderful people of the parish. Children’s faith formation is primarily the job of the parents, given to them at their child’s baptism, but it is the responsibility of ALL OF US to assist the parents and help bring the children more deeply into the Family of Believers. Our faith is best “caught” rather than “taught”, and our examples say far more than our words ever could. The children learn best by being part of our liturgies, serving with us in works of charity, and sharing with us the rich and varied expressions of faith that stem from our traditions and our ever-evolving journey to bring about the Kingdom of God on earth.
Please think and pray about how you can help pass the faith on to your children. Volunteer catechists and aides are always needed, and you’ll be hearing soon about other ways you can be a part of our program. We also ask for your prayers for our children and our catechists as we begin to navigate this “new world” of social distancing and new ways of learning and teaching. May God prosper the work of our hands!
